A couple of weeks ago I wrote about economic recovery as evidenced by my walk up a street in West London.
I commented on the fact that so many of the properties in this residential road were having refits taking place.
Either they were having new windows installed, loft extensions carried out, or in one case a complete “gutting” of the property.
In some case where work was not being carried out goods were being delivered to the front door. I estimated that one in six of the properties I had passed were experiencing one or other of these events.
Great news economic recovery is well under way. At least that the was the conclusion I drew from my less than scientific viewpoint.
Today though much more precise and optimistic news has hit the pages of the press.
The British Retail Consortium reports retail sales in August were up some 3.6%. perhaps because people are becoming more optimistic they are prepared to commit their discretionary spend.
At the same time manufacturers are reporting the biggest rise in new orders and output since 1994.
This is indeed very good news.
I wonder what your local High Street looks like?
A new bakery has just opened in ours and to add to the economic recovery we have invested in a new patio for the office and had all the windows painted.
Let’s hope business continues to do well for all our sakes.
