Many people have to work hard to build up the value of their fixed and disposable wealth, and having done so are likely to have given thought to who might inherit it.
TWM Solicitors is holding a presentation about practical ways in which you can protect these assets, making sure they can be passed on in the way that was intended.
Take one example Wills, where research by Standard Life recently revealed that 6 out of 10 British adults do not have a Will, many citing that they ‘just haven’t got round to it’.
Perhaps this would change if people realised they dying without a Will could mean:
-assets going to family members who don’t need them or who you would not have chosen to receive them;
-in a civil partnership arrangement, your partner will not automatically inherit anything;
-conversely, if you are married but separated your estranged spouse will be an eligible beneficiary of your estate; and
-your estate may bear more inheritance tax than necessary.
For understandable reasons people are put off thinking about making a Will, but death, like tax is an inevitability, so why let the law dictate what happens to your property and possessions when for a little time and moderate outlay you know those that are closest to you are looked after as you would want them to be.
This is one of five talks being given by TWM Solicitors at two presentations on 26th April in Dorking and 2nd May in Guildford from 4pm-6pm.
Others include Powers of Attorney, declarations of trust in property, relationship agreements and inheritance disputes.
