Has your Financial Planner ever asked you this crucial question, why is money important to you?
I’m prompted to ask this after receiving an email this morning from author, illustrator and CFP professional Carl Richards.
Carl’s new book, The One-Page Financial Plan, is being published on 31st March and ahead of then he has been sharing some of the sketches he uses in the book.
He made this sketch because of a question he asks his clients on a regular basis – Why is money important to you?
In his email this morning, Carl points out that this is a question we might expect to hear from a therapist, not our Financial Planner. But that’s the point.
Financial Planning is about much more than just money. Decisions about money stem from personal and subjective views of why money is important to individuals.
Your Values & Priorities
Here at Informed Choice, we pose the ‘why’ question as part of a series of questions about your values and priorities.
We ask these questions because we believe we can provide you with the greatest value when we really understand you. This means knowing more than just your financial position.
We need to know about the role money plays in your life; why money is important to you, how it can help you achieve your objectives and how it may help you enjoy your passions in life.
We should chat
Does your existing Financial Planner ask you why money is important to you, or do they make the leap straight to funds, products and policies?
If you would like to have a chat about why money is important to you, please do get in touch.
You can call us on 01483 274566, email hello@icfp.co.uk or even start a conversation on Twitter @InformedChoice. We would love to hear from you.
