The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,508.45, down 31.69 points or -0.57% on the day and up 6.81 points (+0.12%) over the week.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,164.00 (344.45 points or 6.67%).
The index briefly moved through the 5,600 level on Friday, before falling back during afternoon trade. A weak start on Wall Street as worse than expected US consumer sentiment data came through resulted in the earlier gains being lost.

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.1% for the year to August 2010.
