The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,501.64, up 7.48 points or +0.14% on the day and up 73.49 points (+1.35%) over the week.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 4,987.70 (513.94 points or 10.30%).
Stronger performance on Wall Street failed to generate much interest in the British markets on Friday, as the FTSE 100 crawled slowly past the 5,500 barrier.

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $78.22/barrel. Gold is $1,246.50/ounce and Silver is $19.90/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.1% for the year to July 2010.
