It has been reported that legendary comedian John Cleese is writing an autobiography in an attempt to fund the cost of his divorce from third wife Alyce Faye Eichelberger.
Dubbed the Maintenance Memoirs, the autobiography could fetch an advance of £2m.
71 year old Cleese has claimed that he needs to earn £1m a year to pay for the divorce.
Last week he started a two month tour of Britain as part of his Alimony Tour, also to raise money to pay for the divorce.
Getting divorced is a costly business, although few of us would expect to need additional income of anywhere near this amount to fund a legal separation.
What the breakdown of a marriage should always prompt is an immediate review of your Financial Planning. This will include an assessment of your plans for retirement and ability to meet maintenance obligations.
People getting divorced may also need to consider financial protection to ensure they can continue paying maintenance in the event of incapacity or death.
Divorce is a serious business and can be very expensive for all concerned. By not addressing Financial Planning considerations at the time of divorce, there is a real risk that you will store up problems for the future.
If reports of the circumstances of the Cleese and Eichelberger divorce settlement are to be believed, there might be a good case to consider a pre-nuptial agreement before the marriage as well!
