He starts with news of plans to build a new podcasting studio at Informed Choice HQ; the ‘podding shed’ is due to arrive next week and will hopefully dramatically improve the sound quality of the podcast, cutting out background noise.
Martin talks about the excellent book he is currently reading – Antifragile by Nassim Nicholas Taleb. After struggling to get through The Black Swan a few years ago, he is relieved to find this book more accessible.
He’s been listening to more podcasts, highlighting this week London Real and its interview with Danny Jones, frontman of the bands McFly and McBusted.
Martin also highlights an iPhone app he has started using this week. Wordswag is an app for easy visual content creation. In fact, we used it to create the visual for this podcast episode!
The listener question this week comes from Tim who asks where interest rates and inflation are going next.

Martin examines a new study being published later this year which concluded that fund managers with foreign sounding names tend to suffer from lower inflows than their peers in the wake of a domestic terror attack. Behavioural finance at its best, or possibly at its worst.
He also talks about another new study, reported in the Guardian this week, which has found dementia is now the leading cause of death for women in Britain, ahead of heart disease and breast cancer. What steps should you be taking today to address the risk of dementia? Martin explains.
The life expectancy survey he mentions in the podcast can be found at icfp.co.uk/survey. We are looking for your views on life expectancy and healthy life expectancy.
By taking part, we will enter you into a prize draw to win one of five £10 Amazon gift cards. You will also receive a copy of the white paper we publish based on the research.
There’s also a review of the latest Barings’ Investment Barometer, which shares the views of investment advisers on the outlook for different investment asset classes.
Martin reads out a new review of the podcast on iTunes, left by Roger Edwards. We would really appreciate it if you left a quick review on iTunes, to help make the Informed Choice Podcast more visible and easier for new listeners to find. Visit icfp.co.uk/itunes to leave a review.
Next week it’s the book launch for Nick’s new book, How to Take Your Pension Pot. On Tuesday we are running an online book launch, with bonus items available for anyone who buys a copy of the book from Amazon on the day. Visit icfp.co.uk/amazon to find out more.
