Sundial House, the headquarters for Informed Choice in Cranleigh, has been designated a Building of Local Merit.
Buildings of Local Merit are not protected by statutory listing, but are considered to be of local importance.
Responsibility for this initiative rests with Waverley Borough Council, with Cranleigh Parish Council agreeing on those buildings suitable for the designation.
Along with Sundial House, Cranleigh Village Hall and the Lych Gate at Cranleigh Cemetery were also designated.
Sundial House, which can be found at 20 High Street, was built in the late 1920s by Mrs Smallridge.
The office was originally a private house with a short-lived arts and crafts shop attached. This shop was opened at the time of the great depression and Gwen Smallridge (the daughter of Mrs Smallridge) sat in the shop for a fortnight without a single customer. As a result, they decided to close the shop.
The house and shop were subsequently let to other local people, before Sundial House became an office.
We are very proud to work from somewhere that has such an important local history and has been recognised as a Building of Local Merit.
