The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,938.87, up 57.88 points or +0.98% on the day and down 9.62 points (-0.16%) over the week.
The index held onto earlier gains ahead of the long Bank Holiday weekend. Following a strong performance in early trading, the index held steady for the rest of the day, helped along by good performances from mining and banking stocks.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,195.20 (up 743.67 points or 14.31%).

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $114.83/barrel. Gold is $1,533.00/ounce and Silver is $37.69/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 4.5% for the year to April 2011.
