One of the challenges that we face as Financial Planners is that most of what we deal with is intangible.
You can’t touch a pension plan or an ISA.
It’s what such things can do in your life; the goods and services that they buy, the comfort of knowing that money is there when needed.
The same holds true of Financial Planning.
We can crunch the numbers and produce coloured charts. We can print all of this out in a neatly bound report.
But the report itself is only tangible to a minor degree.
What is tangible is what you can do with that plan.
We work hard to explain to our clients that what is essential, and tangible, are the decisions that they make as a result of them going through the Financial Planning process.
Giving up work or making gifts to the next generation, for example.
We want to provide them with the confidence to make decisions about what their future lives are going to look like.
A great example of this is our clients Steve and Geraldine. I mentioned them in a previous blog about them having a dream about the future.
Steve and Geraldine certainly had a dream about giving up the daily commute to London and, instead, moving to the Wild Atlantic way in County Sligo, Ireland to open a bed and breakfast retreat.
Financial Planning helped them to turn that dream into reality.
We decided that we would capture their story on camera and turn it into a short film.
The film lasts 10 minutes, and in it, we hear Steve and Geraldine talk about their challenges and plans for converting an inherited harbourside property into an idyllic retreat.
We also get to see the beautiful home they have created. We get a feel for the beauty of the coastal area in which they now live.
When we filmed with them, it was mid-winter with snow on the mountains around them and crashing Atlantic waves around the islands that screen the harbour.
One of my colleagues speaking in the film, Andy Bodman, uses the word “magical”; I honestly cannot think of a better word to use.
Grab yourself a comfy chair and maybe some popcorn and sit down and watch this short film.
Much like Steve and Geraldine, maybe it could change your life.
