To celebrate Spring into Cranleigh on Saturday 2nd May 2015, the Informed Choice team will be giving away free Hazel saplings from outside our High Street offices at Sundial House.
Children will also be invited to tell us what they want to be when they grow up, in return for some treasure (chocolate coins).
These dreams will be displayed outside of the office during Spring into Cranleigh and we will select our favourite one at the end of the day, with the winner receiving a special prize.
Last year for Spring into Cranleigh we gave away a free Field Maple sapling to every visitor.
This year, we have selected Hazel saplings to give away.
Hazel is a very common woodland tree or shrub that grows under the canopy of other woodland trees. It’s history is intertwined to ours through the multitude of uses for the wood.
In spring it is laden with lovely ‘lambs tail’ catkins and in autumn producing delicious nuts popular with people and wildlife.
Responsive to close coppicing, its height can be easily controlled from tall tree to smaller shrub.
Hazel also has a reputation as a magical tree that provides protection.
