The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 6,615.58, closing up 27.26 (+0.41%) on the day and up 58.41 points or 0.89% over the week.
The insurance sector was hit hard by the prospect of a major regulatory review, but these losses were offset on Friday by gains in the mining sector.
Mining stocks performed well after Beijing said it was ready to support its cooling economy and push ahead with infrastructure investment.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 6,411.70, a rise of 203.88 points or 3.18%.

Brent Crude Oil Futures is currently priced at $107.86/barrel. Gold is $1,294.75/ounce and Silver is $19.71/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 1.7% for the year to February 2014.
