The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 6,527.89, closing down 25.89 (-0.40%) on the day and down 184.78 points or 2.75% over the week.
Investors remain nervous about political turmoil in Ukraine and a bearish near-term technical outlook for markets.
During trade on Friday, the FTSE 100 hit a five week low and is now at a broadly similar level to a year ago.
It has fallen by around 5% since the high it reached in late-February.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has fallen from 6,529.40, a fall of 1.51 points or 0.02%.

Brent Crude Oil Futures is currently priced at $108.37/barrel. Gold is $1,385.00/ounce and Silver is $21.36/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 1.9% for the year to January 2014.
