The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 6,663.62, closing up 4.20 (+0.06%) on the day and up 91.94 points or 1.39% over the week.
Mining stocks helped the index to record a second consecutive weekly gain, improving from its six-week lows at the start of the month.
There was a strong technical signal that the market has underlying support from buyers, after the FTSE 100 climbed higher than its 50-day moving average on Thursday.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 6,327.40, a rise of 336.22 points or 5.31%.

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 2.0% for the year to December 2013.
