The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 6,739.94, closing up 48.60 (+0.73%) on the day and up 9.27 points or 0.14% over the week.
Disappointing employment data in the US meant the FTSE 100 finished off its highest levels since November.
The figures showed that employers in the US hired the fewest new workers last month in nearly three years. This was partly blamed on the bad weather.
In the UK, the energy sector performed strongly, accounting for nearly a third of the daily gains.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 6,101.50, a rise of 638.44 points or +10.46%.

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 2.1% for the year to November 2013.
