The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 6,439.96, closing down 5.29 (-0.08%) on the day and down 112.03 points (-1.71%) over the week.
European stockmarkets were a little steadier on Friday with light volumes as investors bought back in at cheaper valuations.
It has been a tough week for equity investors with expectations of a tapering to the US Federal Reserve programme of quantitative easing.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,929.60, a rise of 510.36 points or +8.61%.

Brent Crude Oil Futures is currently priced at $108.77/barrel. Gold is $1,232.00/ounce and Silver is $19.55/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 2.5% for the year to October 2013.
