The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,976.77, up 56.79 points or +0.96% on the day and down 93.13 points (-1.53%) over the week.
Most European markets finished the day with gains on Friday following positive jobs data from the US. Banks led the risers, with Royal Bank of Scotland up 5.58% on the day as a result of higher operating profits for the quarter.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,261.00 (up 715.77 points or 13.6%).

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $110.12/barrel. Gold is $1,486.50/ounce and Silver is $34.20/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 4.0% for the year to March 2011.
