The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,997.38, up 14.04 points or +0.23% on the day and up 116.01 points (+1.97%) over the week.
The markets only managed to finish slightly higher today after the Dow Jones failed to provide an inspirational opening. The publication of US unemployment data showed a fall of 0.4% to 9% but did not motivate investors on either side of the pond.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,139.30 (up 858.08 points or 16.7%).

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $99.83/barrel. Gold is $1,355.00/ounce and Silver is $28.91/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.7% for the year to December 2010.
