The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,512.70, up 55.73 points or +1.02% on the day and up 125.36 points (+2.33%) over the week.
The Footsie enjoyed something of a ‘Santa Rally’ today, as 10 year gilt yields dipped momentarily below 2% for the first time in recorded history.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has fallen from 5,996.10, a fall of 483.40 points or -8.06%.

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 4.8% for the year to November 2011.
