The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,668.70, down 30.23 points or -0.53% on the day and down 64.13 points (-1.12%) over the week.
A sharp rally during the afternoon corrected heavy losses from earlier in the day, with gains being reversed at the end of trading following fears about European sovereign debt.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,194.10 (474.6 points or 9.14%).

The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.2% for the year to October 2010.
