Martin Bamford, managing director of Informed Choice and a chartered financial planner, warns: ‘The continued trouble in the eurozone could trigger further bank collapses.
‘ This could mean investors losing their money in structured products on sale from banks and building societies.
‘It is almost impossible to find out where the financial protection actually rests. A structured product gives you the financial strength of the company backing it – for example, an A-rated company – but this is meaningless in the age of the credit crunch.
‘These plans are opaque, full of small print and difficult to analyse.’
