A billionaire Russian oligarch and his second wife have recently agreed what is likely to be the largest divorce settlement in Britain.
Boris Berezovsky, who lives in Surrey, is expected to pay his former wife Galina Besharova a divorce settlement in the ‘hundreds of millions of pounds’.
They had been married for the past eighteen years, although separated for the last sixteen years.
When the couple met in 1981, Mr Berezovsky was a professor of mathematics earning just £60 a month. He went on to amass a personal fortune once estimated to be in excess of £1bn.
The previous record settlement was £48m, when insurance broker John Charman split from his former wife Beverley in 2006.
News of this divorce settlement confirms that England and Wales is the jurisdiction of choice for big money divorce settlements.
