With the London 2012 Games well underway, and Team GB already winning medals, Team Informed Choice have got Olympic fever.
Andrew Neligan, Lizanne Doyle, Catriona Lumiste and Mary Waring are running as a team for the Citywire 10k charity run which takes place on Thursday 27th September 2012 in Regent’s Park, London.
This charity run is in support of two charities, Ovarian Cancer Action and North Devon Hospice.
Ahead of this charity 10k, Andrew is taking on a big challenge in the form of the Helvellyn Triathlon, on Sunday 2nd September 2012.
This is an Olympic distance triathlon, with an extended running section especially for the Olympic year in 2012.
He will have to swim one mile in Ullswater Lake, cycle 38 miles (including over the Kirkstone Pass) and finally run 9 miles up Helvellyn.
At 3,118 feet, Helvellyn is the third highest peak in England. Whilst Andrew is an experienced athlete, this triathlon looks set to pose a major challenge for all competitors.
Closer to home, Informed Choice managing director Martin Bamford is tackling two races later this year here in Surrey, after taking up running in April.
On Saturday 8th September, Martin is racing in the Hard as Snails 10k in aid of Surrey Wildlife Trust.
Hard as Snails starts and finishes in the Chantries on the famous Pilgrims’ Way in Guildford. It is a 10k cross-country run on a single loop with rolling hills, lofty summits and low off-road tracks weaving through the woodland.
This will be the third 10k race Martin has competed in since the start of his running career, in preparation for his first half-marathon – the Surrey Badger Half on Sunday 7th October.
The Surrey Badger Half has been voted as one of the best half marathons in Britain, described as a ‘scenic’ half marathon in the beautiful Mole Valley Countryside.
Later in the year, Informed Choice is sponsoring a 5k fun run in aid of Jigsaw School. This takes place at Dunsfold Park, home of the BBC’s Top Gear track. Entries will be opening soon for this event.
