Birthdays are keynote days in the year, whether they are your own or that of a friend or relative.
Last Saturday it was my grandson Barnaby’s 4th and we had a lovely garden party with his friends to celebrate (well done Summer for arriving for the day!). He was as excited as a 4 year old can be.
This Saturday it is his brother Samuel’s 1st birthday and coincidentally it is the same day as his parents wedding day. Saturday sure is going to be a lot of fun for all concerned!!
Next Tuesday (10th July) it is the 18th birthday of Informed Choice Ltd.
Whilst a firm’s birthday is not as important as a young child’s special day, it is surely still noteworthy?
18 years ago Andrea and I started off with a blank piece of paper. We had a vision of what a professional advisory firm might look like and have worked since then to get to where we are today.
Like all businesses there have been challenges as well as opportunities and the firm today looks very different to the Summer of 1994.
What has not changed over that time is the reason why we do what we do. We really can make a positive difference to people’s financial lives by helping them to make an ‘informed choice’.
Our motto that “we are really good at what we do, but can always get better” tells you, I hope, a lot about our mindset.
It is just too easy to think that what we do is good enough. For us that can never be the case.
We seriously always do want to get better at what we do whether that is about quality, quantity or timing to us it is important to constantly seek to improve.
Along the way though what is really noticeable is the fun that we can have with clients, staff and suppliers alike.
Perhaps one of the reasons why we are still in business after 18 years is that whilst we take our clients money seriously we never take ourselves too seriously, this I suspect is what keeps our perspective just about right.
I hope you will allow me to say “Happy Birthday to us!”
