The government is planning to spend £14m developing an Internet ‘app’ to help couples deal with divorce.
Guidance would be delivered through the web-based application on a range of issues faced by divorcing couples, including maintaining good relationships with children and coping with new partners.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, this app will be available to use on computers and smartphones.
Whilst any reports of the government spending money on new projects in these austere times is likely to raise serious questions, this project could save money in the long-term.
Better information and guidance for those going through the process of divorce is likely to result in better outcomes, not only for the couple and their family but also for wider society.
Of course nothing can replace professional advice that is tailored to meet individual needs and objectives. The provision of information and guidance can be useful, as long as it can be applied to your circumstances.
Due to the complexity of the legal and financial issues surrounding a divorce, the use of solicitors and independent financial advisers will remain an important part of the process to ensure the right decisions are made.
