The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,796.87, down 18.36 points or -0.32% on the day and down 78.48 points (-1.34%) over the week.
The index finished the day lower as mining stocks experienced falling metal prices. The markets in London were not helped by a lower opening to trading in Wall Street, as a result of fears that the Chinese government would further tighten monetary policy to deal with rising inflation.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,276.50 (520.37 points or 9.86%).

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $86.10/barrel. Gold is $1,388.50/ounce and Silver is $26.79/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.1% for the year to September 2010.
