The highlight of my week has been a walk in the countryside with my daughter Emma and her two boys, my grandsons Barnaby and Samuel.
Socially distanced, of course, we walked from Cranleigh through the lovely farmland and woods that we have here almost reaching the nearby village of Ewhurst before returning to Cranleigh.
Lots of birds and butterflies as well as wildflowers to admire.
Accompanying us on the trip was Pip.
Pip is a “rescue” Greyhound the scars on his body and emancipated body evidencing a somewhat cruel history.
When she took over caring for Pip, Emma tells me she had to hand feed him his dog food because he had pretty much given up the will to live.
She has done a marvellous job in turning him around.
During the walk, I saw him do something that I had not seen before.
In an open field of long-grass, he started to run. Nothing like as fast as a Greyhound should and his sprint through the long-grass didn’t last that long, but if I can indulge in some anthropomorphosis for a moment, he looked like he was enjoying it!
When he did stop, he seemed very puffed out.
He was put back on the lead to cross a field with half a dozen horses all of whom seemed very curious of the humans strolling through their domain.
I received a present from the boys this week a hanging plaque with the words “Can’t wait to hug you” stencilled on it. I know how they feel, and I also cannot wait to hug them.
