The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,741.37, down 16.49 points or -0.29% on the day and up 38 points (+0.67%) over the week.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,207.40 (533.97 points or 10.25%).
Banking stocks did well on Friday as the FTSE 100 struggled to gain traction. The view from Merrill Lynch that shares in Lloyds Banking Group and Royal Bank of Scotland could double in value by 2012 on the growth of investor confidence pushed up the price of these stocks.

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $83.25/barrel. Gold is $1,322.50/ounce and Silver is $23.05/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.1% for the year to September 2010.
