The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,657.61, down 4.52 points or +0.08% on the day and up 64.71 points (+1.16%) over the week.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,154.60 (503.01 points or 9.76%).
The FTSE 100 finished the day only slightly lower, after making up the losses it incurred earlier in the day. In afternoon trading, the index was boosted by better than expected trading on Wall Street, despite poor jobless figures in the US.

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $84.01/barrel. Gold is $1,341.50/ounce and Silver is $22.37/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.1% for the year to August 2010.
