The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,625.65, up 8.39 points or +0.15% on the day and up 25.89 points (+0.46%) over the week.
Shares in the main European markets closed at their highest level in seven weeks after positive retail sales data boosted confidence. Banking sector stocks rose after negotiations to overhaul banking regulation in the US Senate collapsed.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 3,712.10 (1,913.55 points or 51.55%).

Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $80.17/barrel. Gold is $1,118.75/ounce and Silver is $16.91/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 3.5% for the year to January 2010.
