One of the keynote speakers at the Institute of Financial Planning (IFP) annual conference next month is Dr. James Rouse.
I’m looking forward to attending his session on the neurobiology of high performance, so when I saw he had written a new book, I was keen to read it.
Think Eat Move Thrive: The Practice for an Awesome Life was published in the UK last week. I purchased the Kindle version and finished reading it last night.
It’s an excellent read and I highly recommend it.
The book is well researched and covers a lot of ground in each of the main areas of cognition, diet, exercise and well being.
James and his wife (co-author, Debra Rouse) advocate mindfulness, eating with intention, and interval-based movement.
Two-thirds of the book covers the importance of these practices, with the final third devoted to recipes and exercise programmes.
As I was reading, I highlighted the following passages which particularly resonated:
“All motion creates positive emotion,”
I truly believe that self-care is a form of social activism; it is not selfish. It is the means through which we can transform ourselves and those around us.
The planet is in need of an all-out self-care revolution, and it begins with three essential and basic ingredients: THINK, EAT, and MOVE.
Realizing your best life is not only about looking good, it’s also about inspiring others around you to realize their best lives.
TEMT is not just a lifestyle, it is a life study.
All that we are is the result of what we have thought. The mind is everything. What we think we become. —Buddha
My two daughters are my most powerful whys. Not because my life is solely focused on them, but because I want to lead by examples so that they witness a life of full engagement, and what they take away from my examples is that they are infinitely capable of creating the life of their dreams.
Surround yourself with positive images that inspire, whether that be on your desk at work or on your refrigerator or altar. Let the images serve as a reminder of the powerful intentions you have set for yourself and your life’s vision and mission.
It’s all about priority, and when you make that priority exercise, you can always find the time.
Happiness is a state of living and being that is yours to create, to share, and to openly ask for more of.
Gratitude acts as fuel for our why commitments, bringing extra firepower to sustain the journey. Be genuine, open your heart, and allow the gratitude to flow.
From heart disease to type 2 diabetes, depression to Alzheimer’s, the relationship between chronic inflammation, disease, and premature death is sobering.
Lean muscle mass is one of the most important components of healthy aging.
Blue Zones are communities where common elements of lifestyle, diet, and outlook have led to an amazing length and quality of life.
One of the best investments you can make ahead of retirement is in your health. I’m convinced of this.
Despite the UK population living longer lives, these are not necessarily healthier lives, resulting in all sorts of issues and costs in later retirement.
Given the choice, I’m sure all of us want to be fit, active and healthy in retirement.
Think Eat Move Thrive: The Practice for an Awesome Life is a great guide to achieving that goal.
