I was quoted in the Sunday Express yesterday, in an article exploring tricks to find cheap treats at half term.
“Keeping the children entertained during the school holidays is a regular challenge,” says Martin Bamford from adviser Informed Choice.
“Day trips, meals out and extra travel expenses during the break can soon leave a hole in already stretched family budgets.”
With half term next week, here are a few low-cost ideas for parents to keep children entertained in and around Cranleigh.
On Saturday 26th October, Megan and I will be taking part in the Night Fright 2.5km night walk for families.
This takes place at 6pm in the Chantries woodlands at dusk, with torches, head torches and glow sticks encouraged
A fancy dress competition will be judged before the walk starts. Entry is only £4 per person, or £12 for a group of 3-5 people.
Winkworth Arboretum near Godalming is looking stunning this time of year, with the autumn colours coming through.
From Saturday 26th October to Sunday 3rd November, there is a Happy Halloween spooky trail available for children. This costs 50p per child, with free entry for children in Halloween costume.
There is also pumpkin carving on Thursday 31st October from 11am to 1pm; bring your own pumpkin!
One of the main events in the Cranleigh social calendar is the Cranleigh Bonfire.
This takes place on Saturday 2nd November, with the procession starting from Park Drive at 6.30pm and the firework display at 8pm.
This is a free show, however please give generously to the collectors from the Cranleigh Lions. All profits from the event help charitable organisations, families and individuals in Cranleigh and the surrounding area that need their support.
