The FTSE 100 index of leading UK company shares finished the week at 5,900.76, up 19.89 points or +0.34% on the day and up 182.63 points (+3.19%) over the week.
The FTSE 100 closed on Friday above the 5,900 level after a number of helpful broker recommendations pushed prices higher.
The performance of the index this week was a lesson in the futility of market timing, with those investors who cut their losses in the previous week missing out on robust market recovery.
Over a year the FTSE 100 has risen from 5,727.60 (up 173.16 points or 3.02%).
£1 is currently worth $1.60420 US or €1.13870 Euros.
Brent Crude Oil Future is currently priced at $115.95/barrel. Gold is $1,436.00/ounce and Silver is $37.68/ounce.
The UK Bank Rate is 0.5% and CPI inflation was 4.4% for the year to February 2011.
